WESTERN CAPE: Durbanville police arrested a 30 year old male for the possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition in the Fisantekraal informal settlement on Monday morning at about 09:50. The members attended to a complaint in the informal settlement when they received information about a person standing with a firearm close to where they were. A suspect fitting the description was stopped and searched and a 6.35mm pistol with ammunition was found in his possession.

Once charged the suspect will appear in the Bellville Magistrates court.

In an unrelated matter members of Athlone police arrested 11 suspects between the ages of 22 and 57 for the possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition in Aloe Court, Kewtown in the early hours of Monday morning. The members followed up information they received of a firearm at a premises and searched it. A 9mm pistol with ammunition was recovered and the occupants in the house could not account for the firearm.

Once charged they will appear in the Athlone Magistrates court on the mentioned charges.
